The creative process of releasing the hand from the marble that holds it prisoner, has many different facets. Reflecting on it further (after this article in August), it brings to light this other idea of being 'trapped'. The marble is a trapping that holds you back...

Think about this. Have you ever felt like you're trapped in a situation that doesn't reflect who you are?

It's as if there's a masterpiece within you, but it's encased in a block of marble, waiting to be freed. This brings to my mind the concept of aisthesis ("αἴσθησῐς"), an Ancient Greek term meaning the full knowing of all our senses.

The word speaks to the tuning into all your senses and experiencing the world on a deeply personal level.

the concept of aisthesis ("αἴσθησῐς"), an Ancient Greek term meaning the full knowing of all our senses.

Think about what Bob Dylan once said, “I was heading for the fantastic lights. Destiny was looking right at me and nobody else.”

I believe this captures the essence of breaking free from the marble's constraints and following your own path. It's about recognising that your journey is unique, and only you can perceive the call through your own senses.

Imagine your life as a sculptor's work. The marble represents external expectations, fears, and constraints that have built up over time. Your true self is the sculpture hidden inside, wanting to be revealed.

Often, we ignore our own perceptions and feelings because we're afraid of change or worried about what others might think. We stay in jobs that drain us or relationships that no longer bring joy because it's what we know—it's comfortable, even if it's confining...

Often, we ignore our own perceptions and feelings because we're afraid of change or worried about what others might think.

By embracing aisthesis, you start paying attention to those inner signals. That uneasy feeling when you wake up in the morning? That's your body telling you something's off. The sense of relief you imagine when thinking about a different path? That's a hint at the freedom you crave.

Your senses are tools—chisels, if you will—that can help chip away the excess marble imprisoning what wants to emerge.

Letting go of what's holding you back isn't easy. It requires courage to face the unknown and trust in your own perceptions and having meaningful conversations with trusted relationships.

But consider this: every great sculpture only emerges when the unnecessary parts are removed. Similarly, freedom comes when you shed the layers that don't serve you—be it toxic relationships, unfulfilling careers, or limiting beliefs.

Think about aisthesis in the context intimacy.

Real intimacy isn't just about the excitement of physical touch or fleeting moments of pleasure. It's rooted in profound understanding—a deep, sensory perception of another person (full aisthesis).

There's nothing more impactful than feeling genuinely understood, and nothing more beautiful than truly comprehending someone else.

There's nothing more impactful than feeling genuinely understood, and nothing more beautiful than truly comprehending someone else.

When two people connect not just physically but also mentally and imaginatively, they forge a bond that transcends the tangible world. They meet in the silent spaces of each other's minds and hearts, in realms that words can't fully capture.

By embracing aisthesis, we fine-tune our senses to experience each other on a more intimate plane. It's about perceiving the subtle emotions, the unspoken thoughts, and the intricate layers that compose a person's soul. Through this heightened sensory awareness, intimacy transforms from a simple physical experience into a deep convergence of two inner worlds.

To be truly seen—deeply and completely—in all the layered complexity of your being, that's the essence of genuine intimacy. It's where trust takes root, and vulnerability blossoms. A relationship grounded in aisthesis becomes a catalyst for profound transformation.

And as we grasp this what we discover is, we don't only want compassion but also relationships which resonate with the deepest layers of your thoughts and feelings. Choose a companion who can unlock life's mysteries alongside you, understanding nuances that only the two of you can grasp in each other's presence.

This is what the soul yearns for: a beauty where a brilliant mind and a perceptive heart outshine even the most captivating eyes. A mind willing to venture beyond the ordinary—to explore (with you) the infinite realms of thought and sensation—is rare and breathtaking. By fully embracing aisthesis, you open the door to a deeper, more fulfilling intimacy that enriches both your lives.

Engaging with aisthesis empowers you to experience life authentically. You begin to make choices aligned with who you really are, not who others expect you to be. It's about feeling the world around you and within you, allowing those sensations to guide your decisions.

Here is one key takeaway to apply in your life: Practice Deep Listening.

  • How to Apply: Engage in conversations where you fully focus on the other person without judgment or preconceived notions. Set aside distractions and listen not just to the words, but also to the emotions and intentions behind them. Pay attention to non-verbal cues like body language and tone of voice.

  • Why It Helps: This is a key aspect that involves observing and connecting with others to understand deeper needs and potentials. Deep listening allows you to perceive the world through the perspective of another, fostering empathy and a stronger connection. This enhances intimacy by creating a space where both parties feel heard and understood, aligning with the concept of aisthesis by engaging your senses to perceive more fully.

So, if you feel like your hand is trapped in the marble, maybe it's time to start chipping away. Listen to your senses. Trust your perceptions. Embrace aisthesis as a pathway to freedom.

After all, the most magnificent sculptures are revealed not by adding more, but by removing what's unnecessary.

Are you ready to set it free? Just like heading for the fantastic lights that only you can see, it's time to let destiny look right at you and nobody else.

You are a masterpiece, believe it and live it out,
